On Equal Pay Day, Schrader Urges Passage of the Paycheck Fairness ActWASHINGTON – Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) released the following statement today in recognition of Equal Pay Day and his support of the Paycheck Fairness Act. “In Oregon, women make 80 cents to every dollar a man makes. This wage gap is not a new development and is concrete proof that 52 years after the Equal Pay Act we still have a ways to go in achieving gender equality in the workplace. Oregon women work hard, care for their families and serve their communities—they shouldn’t have to settle for less on payday.” Equal Pay Day falling on April 14 symbolizes how far into the year women must work to finally earn what men were paid in the previous year. The Paycheck Fairness Act seeks to strengthen and close loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by, among other provisions, prohibiting employer retaliation for sharing salary information with coworkers.
