WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) today was sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives by Speaker of the House John Boehner. Congressman Schrader officially began his fourth term in Congress.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to serve Oregonians in the House of Representatives,” said Congressman Schrader. “We face a critical time in our nation’s history – gridlock is at an all-time high and Americans are losing trust in their government, but I’m hopeful that, in this new Congress, we can come together to address this nation’s most difficult challenges. I’ll continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we keep our economy growing and the middle class is in a strong position to succeed.”
Congressman Schrader will begin his term in Congress by joining the exclusive House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Previously, he served on the House Agriculture, Small Business, and Budget Committees. In addition, Congressman Schrader will serve as the Co-Chair of Administration for the fiscally-responsible Blue Dog Coalition and as Co-Chair of the bipartisan No Labels Problem Solvers Caucus, a coalition of Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives who are committed to ending the gridlock in Washington.
“Nearly every piece of legislation that is voted on by the House passes through the Energy and Commerce Committee. In this new capacity, I’ll advocate for stronger investments in renewable energy that will reduce our carbon footprint and our reliance on foreign oil, I’ll fight to ensure Americans have access to quality health coverage without overly burdensome government interference, and I’ll work with members of both parties to ensure we have a robust economy that gives our businesses, of all sizes, the tools they need to succeed.”
