Congressman Kurt Schrader (D-OR) released this statement immediately following President Barack Obama’s address to the Congress.
“One month into his presidency, President Obama has certainly lived up many of his promises and his commitment to get to work for the American people. Tonight we heard the President renew his commitment to working with the Congress, Democrats and Republicans, to turn our economy around, put Americans back to work and rebuild our country. I look forward to working with President Obama to enact comprehensive health care reform that ensures coverage and reduces costs for every American. I will also work with the President to create a first-class education system to prepare our children for the 21st Century and work for energy independence. Last, but certainly not least, I stand 100% behind the President’s proposal to cut our deficit in half by the end of his first term. President Obama said ‘we will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.’ That’s exactly the message I’m bringing home to Oregon.”
