Congressman Kurt Schrader yesterday sent a letter to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer regarding the economic stimulus package. Schrader asked the House leadership to consider certain aspects of the stimulus that are critical to the economic recovery of his district and Oregon as a whole.
Congressman Kurt Schrader (D-OR) yesterday sent a letter to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer regarding the economic stimulus package. Schrader asked the House leadership to consider certain aspects of the stimulus that are critical to the economic recovery of his district and Oregon as a whole.
“States such as mine are facing immediate budget shortfalls that if left unaddressed will undermine any efforts on the part of Congress to stimulate the economy and prevent an economic depression,” said Schrader.
Oregon, like the rest of the nation, is facing significant cuts to critical government services such as health care, senior services and law enforcement. Congressman Schrader is calling for an immediate increase in the Federal Medical Assistance Program (FMAP) rate to fill the hole in Oregon’s human services budget and investments in the Oregon University System to allow them to break ground on countless infrastructure projects.
“The fastest way to create jobs with a long term societal benefit is through investment in deferred maintenance projects on university campuses across the nation,” continued Schrader.
