Today, Congressman Kurt Schrader announced that Military Academy Nominations are due by Wednesday, December 15, 2010. “For a young person seeking a higher education and willing to serve as a commissioned officer in the United States Armed Forces, this is an opportunity that should not be overlooked,” said Schrader. “Military Academy Nominations provide our students with an excellent educational opportunity and an ability to serve their country as officers in the United States Armed Forces. I urge interested students in my Congressional District to submit their applications to my office by December 15, 2010.” Every year, Congressman Schrader nominates a select group of candidates for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point. Securing a congressional nomination does not guarantee an offer of admission or an appointment to a military academy, but is a critical step in the highly competitive application process. Military Academy Nominations are open to students residing in the 5th Congressional District, are between the ages of 17 and 22, legal U.S. Citizens, and must be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents. All requirements must be met by July 1st of the year they would be entering the academy. Click here for more information. |
