Schrader Praises Passage of Homeland Security Bill
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) applauded the passage of a bill to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the end of Fiscal Year 2015. The measure passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 257-167.
“I’m relieved that the House could finally come together today and pass a bill to ensure that DHS remains fully operational,” said Congressman Schrader. “Nearly shutting down an agency with the crucial responsibility of ensuring our nation’s security was an irresponsible political stunt and could have caused severe harm to America’s ability to protect itself.”
“Congress has come dangerously close to missing important funding deadlines too many times. Governing by crisis is not what the American people want or expect, but has become far too common. This vote final vote shows that there are still times when Republicans and Democrats reach out to one another on larger issues that affect the entire country. We should never resort to political gamesmanship and let the clock run out before we do what’s best for our country.”
